Eyes to My Heart

Ralph Cowan was always fascinated with human expression. To him, the eyes tell all. His portrait clients were always amazed at how perfectly he painted eyes. It was as if the subject could walk off the canvas. As Cowan got older, he regretted not being involved in his own sons’ lives which was due to a difficult divorce. He was so thrilled when he found out that he had grandchildren. He expressed his enthusiasm by painting a series of children with large curious eyes. The children’s eyes reflect the dependence and love that both parent and child have for each other. Cowan wanted the paintings to be humorous and amusing.
